EMAIL NEWS LETTER 3 DECEMBER 1999
PRECIOUS LIFE AND THE WOMAN'S RIGHT TO CHOOSE

I'm sure that every one is aware of Cardinal Winning, Jim Dowson and their absolutely reactionary stance on both contraception, abortion and attack on young people's sexual health - if not read today's papers. We've (Women's Network in West and South East Scotland) have done a Press Release and wrote a motion for Tommy Sheridan FOR Parliament denouncing Precious Life and congratulating Susan Deacon's stance against their so-called "Pavement Counselling" i.e. demos with placards of chopped up foetuses etc. outside Family Planning Clinics and hospitals. However using legislation is not the only answer. The campaign to defend safe, legal abortion on the NHS is a must and will become a major campaign in the New Year for the SSP and broader working class movement.

In Edinburgh and Glasgow there have been Pro-Choice Action Groups set up, which hopefully will be broad based. The S.T.U.C. are to be involved and will hopefully put some backing and resources into it

EDINBURGH: Pro-Choice Action Group meeting 3rd December 1999 at 5.30 p.m. at Edinburgh Trades Council, 26 Albany Street. Leafleting every Thursday from 5.30 p.m. at Wellington statue, East End of Princes Street.

GLASGOW: Pro-Choice Action Group organised rally at Caledonian Uni. @ 7 p.m. on 9th December 1999. Any activity best contacting Glasgow centre - 0141 221 7714.

I have no information from any other part of Scotland but would be very appreciative if comrades could contact me with activity in their area.

I would suggest that in the New Year that there is discussion in the SSP branches on the Woman's Right To Choose. For speakers lists contact me, but I'm sure that there would be people in the branches who could do this. Should you need speaker's notes let me know.
Keep in touch.
Yours in struggle

Catriona Grant
Women's Spokesperson for Scottish Socialist Party.

P.S. Please pass this email on to other comrades.
